Education for manufacturing cannot
start at the post secondary level. As labor-intensive manufacturing
operations move off-shore, they are being replaced by a new
manufacturing culture that requires an integrated skill set
of its employees. This requires a complete pedagogical change
in the way we prepare our children for manufacturing along with
all other technical careers. It also demands that parents become
more aware of the importance, impact, and value that all technical
careers have on the comfort, well being, and standard of living
within our society. FLATE has, and will continue to support
and nurture manufacturing education throughout the K-12 educational
environment in Florida. To this end, FLATE participates in
a variety of activities that promote awareness of manufacturing
and its high economic value to the state.
Goals
1. Provide professional development opportunities for teacher in the technical aspects of manufacturing and how it relates to K-12 science and technology curricula.
2. Produce content materials that excite students about the interconnection among science, technology, engineering and math.
3. Promote and support community scholarship efforts for students that pursue education in manufacturing areas.
